Stepping out of Sugamo Station off of the Yamanote line winds you back to an earlier day in Tokyo. The buildings, people, and culture in this area remind you of a 1950’s Tokyo. Less congested, less neon and lcd displays, a lot more smaller family owned shops and older folks out for a walk. I went for a long walk down a main street full of shops and when I finally got tired took a light rail train back to the station (also a throwback to an earlier day, pre-bullet trains).
