Heading home from SF on the 101 is a pretty nice drive. This particular day the sky was intermittent with rain and sun, so the vast open land and cloud cover was really nice to look at. I wish there were more spots I could have stopped at along the way to take some photos. I caught this one on a service road just off the highway.
The drive was pretty dangerous with the rain. I saw two completely overturned cars in separate incidents; one south of SLO and one just after Santa Barbara.

I have been to this spot twice now. It is just north of the bridge near Sausalito. The first time was on a weekend and it was packed with visitors and tourists (myself being one of them). This time I was the only person there, which was pretty cool. I sat for a bit, made a telephone call and just enjoyed the view while snapping a few shots and the whole time it was just me. I also drove a little further west than I had last time, following a winding mountain road where I discovered a few other spots to see the bridge. This spot is probably the easiest and better of the spots I saw. It is the site of a former military barrack and you get to walk through the old buildings on your way to the bridge viewing spot. Bring a jacket though, super cold and windy both times I was there.

Couple random shots from Venice. Since I started working from home a lot I have been taking walks during the day to clear my mind and get out of the house. I met the two ducks close to the Venice canals, they seemed to want to follow me for a bit so I slowed down so they could catch up. Eventually they got tired of me and left to head down the street. They seemed like they were best buddies though and were having a hell of a time. The other shot is from the Venice Pier at Washington.

I took a walk down to the beach around the time the sun was going down and grabbed a few shots on my walk. I started at Rose and made my way up to the Santa Monica Pier. The sky was looking pretty cool, but it was starting to get kinda chilly, so it seems like the beach season is coming to a close.

Lots of screaming carnival riders for a place that is sort of lacking the thrills. Definitely a popular spot with the tourists though.

Checked out the Sonic Generations of Skate competition on Venice Beach this weekend. Overcast skies and a relatively small turn out for a free event featuring Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero. The crowd that was there was definitely unique.

Great 90 degree day in October. Pretty much amazing weather for a fall trip to New England and I was glad I got to get out and enjoy it (and get a mild sunburn).

The pumpkin trail at Roger Williams Park and Zoo would be what I consider a “very Rhode Island” experience. It was slightly uncomfortable walking through the exhibit as you are constantly bumped into by heavily accented people and their kids and you likewise have to deal with everyone taking photos with their flash on (which sort of defeats the purpose of the photo because the pumpkins don’t look all that good in full light). I had a difficult time taking shots myself because I had no idea what settings would get the best results. Luckily I had a few salvageable shots, and I was really happy that the Bieber pumpkin made it into the good enough pile and wasn’t crazy blurry.
